Kite surfing: Watergate Bay Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 20 - 35 knots Surf / Sea State: Double overhead high rough sur Air Temperature: 17C Sea Temperature: nice Weather: Overcast/ Sun / Showers Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Headed out for a sesh just after lunch and there were already 3 kiters out
enjoying themselves in the rough conditions.
My dad helped me launch and I got out there. It was pretty hard to get
going due to the big lulls and there was a hell of a rip with the strong
Southerly wind which had been blowing for the past few days so that knocked
a couple of knots off the windspeed.
Eventually got out the back but then got mashed on a huge wave. The power
of the wave swept me under so I managed to get a bit disorientated and at
this point the kite got mashed in the huge wave and once all the lines were
tangled it was impossible to get going again. This ended up with a long
swim back in amongst the rough gnarly conditions.
Once I'd got ready to go out again I realised the main bladder had gone
down. Upon quick inspection, the valve on the main baldder linking the main
bladder to the end strut had come adrift so I've had to glue that back in
place. It's a bad design really and it's already happened to a couple of
other valves on other struts so I hope GK have rectified it in their latest
kites.
Overall was good to get out and definately the biggest conditions I've been
in, did I mention it was gnarly out the back!
